Every two years, the Revelations exhibition offers a meeting place for art craft professionals which has been created and organized since 2013 by Ateliers d'Art de France. This professional union represents the 281 French art crafts, and seeks to promote unpublished works and exceptional savoir-faire through the event.
This year the fifth edition of Revelations where the African continent was honored. For the third time in a row, we were lucky enough to participate in this unique event which reveals contemporary creation, inspires tomorrow's talents and sublimates our hand-crafted savoir-faire.
For this new edition, we have bind our savoir-faire with our partners of the Collectif Par Excellence through an original scenography staged by the interior architect Constant Clesse and composed of several works made-to-measure especially for the biennial. For this occasion, each artisan has imagined and created inspiring pieces highlighting their savoir-faire.
Through this article, we invite you to discover all the pieces of each partner exhibited at the Grand Palais Éphémère from June 9 to 12.
Jouffre - Panther armchair and sofa
We wanted to highlight two exceptional pieces designed by the interior design duo Laurène Barbier Tardrew and Romain Jourdan from Studio Parisien with whom we have been collaborating for some time. Realized in our Lyon workroom, we have chosen to exhibit in our scenography the Panther armchair and the Panther sofa, both covered with a sublime Concorde Dune linen velvet from the textile house Métaphores. These two pieces of furniture are part of the Panther collection born from the collaboration between Studio Parisien and our workroom.
The Panthère armchair with its strong, enveloping lines and refined design rests on a beechwood structure upholstered in fabric by our upholsterers. Inspired by the iconic Cartier feline, the Panthère sofa with its soft and feminine lines recalls the elegant shapes of the elongated fawn and also rests on a wooden base wrapped in fabric.
Atelier de Ricou - The art of wall decorations
Since 1989, the Atelier de Ricou has been creating prestigious custom-made decorations using contemporary materials rooted in the richest cultural traditions, such as painted decorations or the restoration of paintings and sculptures for Historic Monuments. To promote their exceptional savoir-faire within the scenography, the Atelier de Ricou has displayed on the wall a unique creation highlighting the diversity of art materials that the craftsmen use on a daily basis. The house reveals all its technicality and its mastery of eglomerate glass through a work used in a mirror effect whose frame is made of several samples of their art materials.
Manufacture de Tapis de Bourgogne - The beauty of hand-woven carpets
Since 1958, the Manufacture de Tapis de Bourgogne has accompanied the world's designers in their handmade carpet projects. For the Revelations trade exhibition, a carpet and a tapestry were exhibited to promote the savoir-faire of the art craftsmen. The tapestry "Caldeira", designed by Elsa Barbillon, adorns one of the walls of the scenography. Composed of wool, silk, bamboo, polyamide, in notes of blues and ochres, it is an invitation to meditation thanks to the different techniques of weaving, tufting and knitting used for its making. On the floor, the stage is dressed by the "Lingot" carpet created by Thomas Pheasant. Its touches of grey shades soften the decor while bringing a touch of light thanks to the bronze fragments added by the Saint-Jacques workroom.
Ateliers Saint-Jacques - Foundation of Coubertin
Located in the Domaine de Coubertin, the Saint-Jacques workroom have developed unique skills over the years. Wood, metal, stone and bronze are worked every day by the one hundred and fifty craftsmen who make up these workroom to create exceptional works. For the event, the Saint-Jacques workroom have created a coffee table in solid green marble from the Alps designed by the architect Constant Clesse and installed in the center of the Manufacture's carpet. At the other end of the scenography, we find a bench in walnut and patinated bronze designed by the workroom and Constant Clesse composed of sliding doors in brass and wood marquetry. On this work is a cushion in a taupe silk velvet "Tout Doux" decorated with custom-made puffs as well as a braid from the Tsarina collection by Declercq Passementiers.
Ateliers Lison de Caunes - Straw marquetry
The Ateliers Lison de Caunes perpetuate a rare craft dating from the 17th century: straw marquetry. The rye straw, with its silky touch and shimmering reflections, is worked every day, dried and dyed by their specialized kiln maker in Burgundy to create art objects and decorative motifs. The colorful totem pole, the centerpiece of the showroom, was created by Lison herself with natural straw stored for over ten years. The workrooms also created a contemporary work of art for the event: the "Luxor" dresser. This piece is covered with ebony straw marquetry with graphic patterns in relief and has nickel-plated brass surfaces.
Meljac - High end electrical equipment
Leader in high-end switches, Maison Meljac also presented during this biennial event its products with refined finishes thanks to the combination of the skills of each craftsman of this living heritage company. Meljac has created the Pyramid, a functional and elegant multi-socket in brass installed on the coffee table of the Saint-Jacques workroom. Entirely customizable, this exceptional object was carefully treated by hand to obtain a Medaille Clair bronze finish. A wall panel also presented the extent of the brand's expertise. Visitors were able to discover the almost infinite choice of possible engravings (resin, relief, luminous...), the finishes on brass and the various formats available, the latest brass collections (Cannelée, Solaris and Tournaire) as well as the noble materials that the brand offers such as Limoges porcelain or tempered glass.
For this fifth edition of the biennial Revelations, our workroom are proud to have been able to share an inspiring scenography, co-created with our friends and partners of the collective Par Excellence reflecting our different skills.
