For MATTER and SHAPE, which took place from March 7 to 10, the Jardin des Tuileries was transformed into a veritable gallery where designers and furniture makers unveiled their latest creations. Located in the heart of Paris, this new design showcase highlights the diversity of talent and offers a glimpse of emerging trends in industrial and object design, fashion and decorative arts.
Our ateliers were privileged to take part in this event through a partnership with the Parisian architecture agency RDAI, headed by Denis Montel and Julia Capp. Among a selection of iconic, limited-edition pieces presented by RDAI, the “Oblic” sofa, crafted by our Lyon-based craftsmen, took pride of place. The first model designed by RDAI to enter Jouffre's collection, the Oblic sofa is the fruit of a close collaboration between our two Maison to design a seat that, with its play of harmoniously integrated volumes, invites contemplation and comfort.
The expertise of our upholsterers enabled us to overcome the complexity of the project, which consisted in combining different foam densities to meet the demands of practicality, while at the same time ensuring the precision of the sculpture to obtain perfect curved shapes, without folds, where material and form converse subtly. New materials, such as jersey on foam, were used to replace wadding, allowing variations in the thickness of the seam feet to be absorbed and integrated perfectly into the finishing layer. The Oblic sofa embodies a vision in which sculptural elegance meets artisanal excellence.
