“It was second nature to have Jouffre be the predominant upholstery team on the project. The work was divinely neat and sharp, which was important as it needed to balance with the contemporary art and exceptional vintage furniture. Particularly, Jouffre’s work on our custom green silk velvet sofa sticks out the most. It is extremely difficult working with silk velvet, as it naturally crushes. In order for it to be done correctly, the fabric has to be handled with intensive care and precision. Perfect work by Jouffre.” - Rob Johansen, interior designer at Ingrao
> Visit websiteFounded in 1982 in New York City, the architectural firm Ingrao, headed by Anthony Ingrao and Randy Kemper, enjoys an international reputation with private residential projects in New York, Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, Tel Aviv, Monaco, Moscow, Paris and Hong Kong.
With a team of 36 designers and interior architects, Ingrao has built their reputation on the perfect mastery of combining elements, light, texture, scale, and materials.
Recently, Ingrao delighted an art collector couple with the design for their 5-story townhouse in Greenwich Village, a residential area in New York. The couple wanted to entrust this new project to Tony Ingrao for his unique and refined style.
After completely emptying the interior of the house, the designers transformed the overall appearance by replacing the existing windows with monumental openings and sliding aluminum doors. For this renovation work, the owners had one wish: to combine colours and soft textures while keeping the white walls of the house to display their most beautiful contemporary works of art. Ingrao called upon many great names in design, such as Pierre Paulin, Maria Pergay, Marc Newson and Pierre Jeanneret.
Our craftsmen are pleased to have been able to participate in this major project by creating two sublime green velvet sofas and a cream-coloured sofa in a woven loop from Chapas Textiles.
Our upholsterers also created the master bedroom bed, as well as the wall-upholstery installed behind it in the room.
“From the very launch of the project, we set out to create a space for our client that was imbued with exception craftsmanship and attention to detail. The space as a whole was always intended to show the client’s incredible art and furniture design collection. Tony’s intention was to create a landscape that allowed for each piece to shine on their own, without being overt. This ultimately can only come to be when working with exceptional craftsman. It was second nature to have Jouffre be the predominant upholstery team on the project. All of the custom sofas were made by the Jouffre team. Being located close to our office, Tony Ingrao, myself and the client was able to visit the workroom and be a part of each stage of upholstery. We found sharing this intimate activity with our client to be extremely exciting. Additionally, Jouffre did all of the wall upholstery on site for the townhouse project, which encompassed four bedroom walls, custom beds, and three living spaces.
